Wigan swoop to land Sammut

Wigan have completed the signing of Jarrod Sammut on a two-year deal.

The livewire halfback was a free agent after his surprise departure from London Broncos last week, but the Super League champions have acted swiftly to land the 31-year-old.

His arrival ends Wigan’s search for a halfback. The Warriors have been on the lookout for a new playmaker throughout the off-season and previously missed out on Jackson Hastings. But they have finally got their man in Sammut, who only became available at the end of last week.

“It’s a massive opportunity for myself to play for one of the biggest clubs in Super League,” he said.

“I’m really excited to get stuck in and play my part. The whole environment at the Club is something that will help me progress my game even further and I hope I can bring a different style of rugby and attacking flair to the team, as I’ve been around the game for quite some time. I’m looking forward to putting on the Cherry & White Jersey.”

Rugby director Kris Radlinski added: “When we heard the news about Jarrod’s release from London we acted quickly to meet him. It was clear that he was a very motivated guy who still had a burning ambition to play at the top level. We believe he will strengthen our group.”
