Wigan Warriors to play Hull FC for Liam Marshall testimonial

WIGAN WARRIORS will play Hull FC in Liam Marshall’s testimonial game.

The Wigan winger was granted a testimonial in June, with next season to be his tenth in cherry and white.

To date, Marshall has scored 169 tries in 213 appearances for the club, winning three Super League titles, two Challenge Cups and a World Club Challenge.

He also has one England cap to his name, although the 29-year-old missed out on a place in their Ashes squad this autumn despite securing a Dream Team spot for the second successive year.

The pre-season contest will take place at The Brick Community Stadium on Sunday, February 1.

Marshall said: “Firstly, a massive thank you to Hull FC for agreeing to play in my testimonial game – we really appreciate your support in what is hopefully going to be a great afternoon on and off the field.

“Secondly, having a game at The Brick in front of our fans to celebrate ten years at my hometown club is a very proud moment for me and my family.

“The Wigan fans have always supported me greatly since I have been at the club and hopefully I will see lots of them down at the game supporting me and the lads.”

The match is also intended to be useful preparation for the new season, in which Wigan will attempt to reclaim silverware after a year without success and Hull will try to go at least one step better by breaking into the play-offs.

Warriors head coach Matt Peet said: “It’s a great occasion to celebrate Liam’s career.

“Hull and Wigan have a strong history together and they showed last season that they are a club on the rise so it is a really exciting contest to help us prepare for the season.”
