JOE BURGESS will leave Hull KR at the end of this season, despite having another year to run on his contract.
The Robins say their 31-year-old winger has agreed a deal to join another, undisclosed Super League club.
That will be his fourth, having had two spells at hometown club Wigan Warriors and a stint with Salford Red Devils before spending the last three years at Hull KR.
In that time Burgess has won all four available trophies including last season’s treble, capped by scoring two of their four tries in the Grand Final win against Wigan.
He then scored a try in February’s World Club Challenge success against Brisbane Broncos – his second global title, having also won it with Wigan in 2017, when he bagged a hat-trick against Cronulla Sharks.
Robins chief executive Paul Lakin has cited salary-cap pressures for moving Burgess on prematurely.
“Joe has been a fantastic player for us and will leave at the end of the season having been a cornerstone of our success over the last three seasons,” said Lakin.
“Whilst Joe had one more year left on his contract, we recently engaged in open and transparent discussions with him and his manager to seek future opportunities elsewhere for 2027 onwards, due to our salary-cap restrictions and our desire to add some more depth to the squad.”
Burgess has so far scored 64 tries in 73 matches for Hull KR, taking his career total to 202 in 273.
That includes seven tries in 13 NRL games for Sydney Roosters and South Sydney Rabbitohs, plus one in four England caps.
