Winning every game the target, says Wigan Warriors star

Wigan Warriors star Sam Powell insists the club should be targeting wins from each and every one of their remaining games in Super League 2014, as they look to launch an assault on Old Trafford once again.

The defending champions are handily placed going into the final four rounds of the season, with a win at Hull KR this evening putting top of the table – albeit only temporarily, if St Helens beat Wakefield on Friday night. And Powell – who will once again deputise for injured hooker Michael McIlorum, told the Wigan Evening Post that the club are ready to hit peak form when it matters – and must be targeting wins in every game left this season to try and regain the League Leaders Shield trophy.

“We can’t afford to lose now before the end of the year,” the 22-year-old said. “We have done some good training. With no game last week everyone will be fresh.

“We’ve trained most of the week and it has been pretty full-on. We had an eye on the Hull game but we’ve also touched on things to improve our own game.

“Waney wants to win it and so do all the lads so there is a big emphasis on it and we can’t afford to slip up now.”
