Wolves win was for Grix, says Smith

Warrington Wolves head coach Tony Smith has dedicated their impressive win against St Helens on Thursday night to luckless forward Simon Grix – who again suffered another horrific injury during the game.

Grix, who has already missed 15 games in 2014 due to injury, suffered a broken ankle early in the game – and is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines. And Smith said after the game that the players spoke about putting on a show for Grix – and they certainly didn’t disappoint.

“We’re devastated for Simon,” Smith said. “He’s broken his ankle and will be in for surgery tomorrow.

“I think that second half was a bit for Simon, the players spoke about that at half-time. He’s had so many injuries and I think they dug in for Simon.”
