Australia’s national coach Tim Sheens has emerged as Shaun Wane’s biggest rival for the New Zealand Warriors job, which became vacant when Matt Elliott was sacked this week.
The 63-year-old’s manager, Wayne Beavis, was very open about putting him forward for the role. He told the Daily Telegraph in Australia: “I will certainly be putting his name forward if the Warriors are seeking candidates.
“Tim would be an ideal candidate and would bring experience and solidarity. He is the current Australian coach and a four-time premiership-winning coach.”
St Helens boss Nathan Brown has also, though much more subtly, staked his claim for the role.
