FEATHERSTONE ROVERS star Brogan Churm has said securing Super League status for next year with two games to go is down to the hard work everyone has put in since securing promotion last October.
A 30-0 over Leigh Leopards last Sunday, coupled with Barrow’s defeat to Huddersfield, made sure Featherstone were mathematically clear of last place, saving them a repeat of their last foray in Super League.
When Featherstone were last in the top flight in 2024, they went through the season without winning a single game and then lost out to Leigh in the promotion/relegation play-off final.
“Last time round to get into Super League and then be relegated was absolutely wounding,” said Churm, who was part of the team that beat London Broncos in the Championship final last September to earn promotion back.
“It was really difficult for us all but we learnt a lot about what we needed to do to be better this time.
“As soon as the London game finished, we had about three weeks off and were back in again, and from the get-go we were looking for improvement from our previous time in Super League.
“We knew we needed to work harder, be fitter and stronger and better skilled, and that added another level of motivation to us all.
“We wanted to compete and win some games, but the aim was always to retain Super League status.
“It means the world to us that we have done that and it means we’ve showed those that are outside looking in that we really have improved and progressed.”
