York sign Saxton on loan

Tommy Saxton has joined York City Knights on a month’s loan from Halifax.

The 32-year-old winger has joined the Kingstone Press Championship One side after finding his first-team opportunities hard to come by in Richard Marshall’s first team.

The former Castleford, Featherstone and Hull FC star played in the Airlie Birds’ 2005 Challenge Cup final victory over Leeds, but has been in the Championship since 2008.

He joined Fax midway through the 2014 season from Rovers but has been used sparingly this year with Will Sharp, James Saltonstall, Gareth Potts and Jake Eccleston his competition at the Championship side.

Marshall said: “We have several players out of the first team at the minute and the opportunity for Tommy to get some game time at York is attractive.

“Tommy is an experienced player and at his stage needs to be playing on a more consistent basis. We wish Tommy all the best with his stint at York.”
