it's good to reminisce Andrew, even the bad days.i believe this club is finely balanced now. we could go onwards and upwards, or, god forbid, we could sink down to the depths. we must give MC our full backing. he is the one to take us forward.
Heard a rumour Campbell is going at end of season. Hope so! Then club can move forward and a chairman will allow a coach to coach, and we won't be the laughing stock of the division, he has wasted so much money!
if he has wasted any money, it's his money. who's this new chairman that's gonna pump money in like mC. be careful what you wish for.
Almost every good team needs an ex pivot (preferably half back) either as coach or as number 2. They are the blokes with the ideas. One who is from professional stock in terms of working in the upper sphere's (either as a player or a coach) of the game is the man also needed to take a team to the highest level.
Andy is still here and we should respect that but people have stated the lack of creativity.
The guy doing his apprenticeship under Brian Mcdermott would be in my thoughts, should a coaching position at Rovers come up. That's if he could be prised away from his current duties.
sorry Andrew, but that theory doesn't fit in with my experiences of Fev coaches.3 of the best were Peter Fox, Kieth Goulding and Laurie Gant. we won the league with Kieth Cotton but was he a good coach? Harold Moxon was a halfback and a good coach. i think the best coaches are the ones who aren't naturally talented and have had to work and think hard about the game. it would be interesting to see if there was a trend in successful coaches and the position they played.
People are yelling to get a settled team... play what AH think is his best team....
Irwin and Ellis would both be my preferred option. Hooker is such a pivotal position that giving a youngster "game time" is a luxury we don't have anymore.... too much of a gamble.
Robin mate, we played him in the grand final last year and he was a standout. on friday i thought we were let down by some of our most experienced players. for me Irwins not the finished article, we're getting scoot, scoot, scoot, whether it's on or not. it worked at dews but not against broncos
Rumour has it that Fev will have 8 players who will be "Guesting" for them this weekend, that is players not contracted to them full time, they being either season long loans or DR players that make up this number. I do not know whether this information is correct but if it is it took my mind back to July last year when I read Garry Schofield's comments/thoughts on the new structure, to quote
"And dual-registration is a concept that has cheapened some of the lower-division clubs, like Swinton, who seem to have lost their identity in the last couple of years.
If all professional clubs now are to have a clear pathway to the top, then they need to be able to stand on their own feet and prove that they can cope without charity"
Very wise words from someone who gets castigated more often than not for his comments, has its been speculated before if Fev or any other team make the top four by adopting this method what happens come the end of the season play offs if they meet in the league structure with the parent club, will the parent club allow these guests to play in those games against them, I doubt it, but then allow them to play in games against the other teams thereby both weakening and strengthening a opposing team to their own advantage?
Considering that the 8 is a league structure, in the event of equal points gained in the league placings will points difference come into the equation and be a telling factor in the final mix?
This "new era" is the RL's baby, but they do not seem to have thought things through, they need to be addressing these conflicts very soon, or the Keighley/ Batley scenario we had last season will be very small in comparison to the shockwaves this could bring.
Andy Hay has named his squad. 1 dr player from wakey. the leeds players you refer to have actually been signed on by us and are Featherstone players. 3 have been named in the 19, the other is injured. i think most Fev fans would rather there was no dr.
