Hi Andy,

Friday March 12, 2010 12:02 Peter Ramsden

Hi Peter, what question do you want to ask?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:03

[Comment From Kev CreightonKev Creighton: ]

How are the plans for the new stadium going?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:04 Kev Creighton

Hi Kev. Thanks for your question. Plans are progressing really well. Within the next four to six weeks we are hoping to make a really exciting announcement about our plans for the development of our 17 acre site and contribution to the regeneration of Featherstone. Keep your eyes peeled for some jaw-dropping news!

[Comment From Peter RamsdenPeter Ramsden: ]

Hi Andy. Dual registered players are becoming more prevalent in the Co-operative Championship. What are your views on the subject? Is it the start of Championship clubs merely becoming feeder clubs for Super League clubs?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:06 Peter Ramsden

Thanks Peter. This is a hot topic and something that we discussed at a recent RFL/ Championship workshop. I do not think that this is the start of championship clubs becoming feeder clubs for Super League. However, the process is in its infancy and I believe far from perfect, however I do believe that it will be beneficial for the players concerned to maintain their development pathway in light of the new under-20 competition in Super League.

[Comment From David PatricksonDavid Patrickson: ]

Hello Andy. Do you think there's ever any chance whatsever of a merger involving any of the local teams - Featherstone, Castleford and Wakefield?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:10 David Patrickson

My own personal view is quite categorically - no. I am determined that all three clubs have a place in professional rugby league and especially here in the heartland of the sport.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:12 Mark Robertson

Hi Mark, what would you like to ask?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:13

[Comment From Mark RobertsonMark Robertson: ]

Hello Andy. Have Rovers got a realistic chance of returning to Super League? Many fans suspect that whatever criteria Rovers meet in the future the Rugby League have their own agenda and do not want Rovers back in the top flight . What are your views?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:14 Mark Robertson

Mark, at the end of the day all that we can do is put ourselves in a position to be hard to ignore. The decision will always be with the RFL, my own view is that yes we have just as good a chance as anyone and our performance on and off the field is improving year on year and the development plans for our stadium is another step to us meeting all the minimum criteria.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:16

[Comment From Katie Katie: ]

I just wondered if there are any plans to introduce an women's or girl's rugby team?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:16 Katie

Great question Katie and very well timed as we are planning to provide opportunities for girls and ladies to learn the game, be part of the club and ultimately create female teams playing out of Post Office Road.

[Comment From Tim Tim: ]

Do you ever have a peek at the Fans form to see what the fans are thinking, especially about thr quality and delivery of the home/away shirts ?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:18 Tim

Tim, it is difficult not to be aware of what is said on the forum ( the rumour mill is rife!) and on this specific issue on replica kit we have had some problems with our supplier and apologise to all our supporters.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:19

[Comment From Dan Peden Dan Peden: ]

What Is our current financial situtation like?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:20 Dan Peden

As with every business and as far as I am aware, every professional rugby league club, financially times are tough. However we have invested in our community development team in addition to seeking new revenue streams to augment income from rugby alone.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:21

[Comment From Matt Bucktrout Matt Bucktrout: ]

Hi Andy. Rovers have an excellent looking squad this season and again look again set to be among the title contenders . In view of that are you disappointed with the home attendances last season and this year? What average attendance figure do you need to break even?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:21 Matt Bucktrout

Matt, great question. Whilst we could be disappointed at attendance figures on match days we did enjoy a 30 per cent increase in average attendance in 2009 to around 1,650 -1,700. We would very much like and in fact need to get that figure up beyond 2,000 from both a financial and business development perspective.

[Comment From Dan Peden Dan Peden: ]

Do we have a marketing team? If so what plans do they have to get 'new' or 'old' fans in?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:24 Dan Peden

Hi Dan. We have very few full time staff and this is due to the economic climate at the moment and income levels at the club. We have a number of volunteers and board members who work tirelessly on the marketing of the club both on and off the field. However we do know that this is not one of our strongest points and is an area that we are looking at improving as a high priority. In terms of getting new and old fans in, we do know that we must create a product that is more than just 80 minutes of rugby on a Sunday afternoon in the summer if we are to recreate the crowds of the glory years.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:27

[Comment From Josh Moorehouse Josh Moorehouse: ]

Hello Andy, Rovers look to have some great young players coming through their system, like Zak Hardaker, Aaron Dobek and Gareth Williamson. How long will Rovers be able to hold to them before Super League clubs coming sniffing?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:27 Josh Moorehouse

Josh, I agree we do have some great young talent at the club which we will continue to develop and hopefully see them in the first team regularly sometime soon. All that we can do is offer a level of contract that we can afford, unfortunately if a SL club does show an interest, other than compensation there is little that we can or would do to prevent the player going to the SL club. In some ways we would take some pride in knowing that our development pathway has produced a player of the quality demanded by Super League.

[Comment From jack goff jack goff: ]

after a quite successful start to the season, forgetting the NRC, where do you see us at the seasons end ?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:31 jack goff

Hi Jack, with the quality of the squad that we have I would like to think that we will develop a level of consistency in performance both home and away that will see us achieve a top two finishing position.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:32

[Comment From Dan Peden Dan Peden: ]

Congratulations on the recent award, you all must be chuffed. What kind of daily work is going on?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:32 Dan Peden

Thanks Dan, we were really pleased to receive the award from BEST. For those of you who are not aware there is a massive amount of work that is in progress every day of the week which is being undertaken in the main by volunteers and this is something that we will seek to develop and continue for the forseeable future. This ranges from construction and maintenance work to grounds maintenance.

[Comment From amanda cairns amanda cairns: ]

Hi andy, whats your thoughts on the away draw against the wolves in the cup ?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:35 amanda cairns

Hello Ms Cairns. It is not an ideal draw and not one that we would have chosen however it will give us a great opportunity to see what level we are at and what progress we have made since last year and who knows, cause a major upset.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:36

[Comment From Roger Houseman Roger Houseman: ]

Hi Andy. Do you think the Co-operative Championship could do more to publicise itself? There are some great matches at this level but the most of the emphasis from the Rugby Football League and on TV seems to revolve round Super League. Is the Co-operative Championship being sold short?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:36 Roger Houseman

Roger, absolutely and emphatically yes. As a group of clubs in the championship we are constantly raising the issue of press and media coverage and parity where applicable with our SL counterparts. The championship looks like it is going to be a fantastic competition this year and deserved, in my view, of its own dedicated TV and media coverage, something that I will be progressing with our league sponsors.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:38

[Comment From Dan Peden Dan Peden: ]

Andy, Thanks for you replies, good to see this progressing well, I hope this happens again in the near future. What is the situation regarding 'Bluebeard' I heard he was sacked?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:39 Dan Peden

Dan, we have a new "Bluebeard" who I am sure will bring his own character to the mascot. As for the previous inhabitant of the suit, it was a mutual parting of the ways. Nothing more sinister or malevolent than that.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:40

[Comment From Jeff Wileman Jeff Wileman: ]

Hi Andy. If you were to make a prediction where would you see Rovers being in 10 years time? How confident are you that all or most of the plans being announced by Rovers will come to fruition?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:41 Jeff Wileman

Jeff, our vision is and will remain that we will be the best that we can be both on and off the field and we will have a stadium that people are proud to play at and visit. We still harbour ambitions for SL status but that decision is not ours. However if we are not successful I predict that we will be the best club outside of Super League.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:42

[Comment From Andrew Andrew: ]

How do you feel about the negativity that is sometimes thrown at the club despite the huge progress that has been made over the last three to four years?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:42 Andrew

It is sometimes sad that people criticise us as a board of directors and the club as a whole and do not give us credit for the progress that has been made. The club is massively different in terms of infastructure than it was three to four years ago. I recommend that those who do not visit the club through the week or do not attend non-rugby events to do so to see the quality of the venue and the variety of services available.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:45

[Comment From Guest Guest: ]

is Ian Harman Joining Castleford?????

Friday March 12, 2010 12:45 Guest

We have received no official approach from Castleford although we too have heard the rumours.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:45

[Comment From Andrew Andrew: ]

The Rover's clubhouse seems to have had massive investment over the last 12 months, why was this and what is it doing for the club?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:46 Andrew

Andrew, as we only play rugby potentially every other Sunday in the season, rugby itself only contributes 1/14th of the revenue, thus we need to find new revenue from the other 13 days that the club is available. From my perspective the conference and function rooms are now better in terms of facilities, decor and ambiance than anything else in our area and I urge anyone looking for meeting rooms training rooms or a conference venue to come and see the difference that our investment has made and the quality available.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:49

[Comment From Brian Brian: ]

Following years of being decimated through double standards by Super League/R.F.L culminating in the abolishment of promotion and relegation on merit alone,do you think it is time for National League clubs to set up an independent league, this would allow for the negotiation of transfers and TV rights.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:49 Brian

[Comment From Phil Roper Phil Roper: ]

Andy, Do you think the Chris Moyles involvement was a success? Many people inititally thought it was a joke to name the stadium after him but a lot seemed to change their mind when they saw the publicity it brought. What are your views?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:50 Phil Roper

Brian, this has been discussed between the championship ckubs however the level of investment that we now enjoy via the RFL dispersion payments is funded by Sky and ultimately Super League Europe thus we are bound at this stage by the rules of both organisations.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:51

Yes Phil, I do. For two years, 2007 and 2008, we were the most talked about RL club nationally and you can't put a price on the exposure we had from Radio 1. As with everything, it was time for a change, especially when we received an inquiry based around investment in the club.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:52

[Comment From Tony Tony: ]

will you be improving junior rugby at fev on matchdays

Friday March 12, 2010 12:53 Tony

Yes. We have a programme in place in 2010 to play curtain raisers before every game which will involve as many junior amateur clubs across our area as possible.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:54

[Comment From Tony Tony: ]

why do r overs and tigers no longer play pre-season friendlies

Friday March 12, 2010 12:54 Tony

Tony, great question. I personally request the Boxing Day friendly with Castleford every year as I believe that it is something that both sets of fans want to see and want to retain as a tradition. Unfortunately Castleford have chosen to play SL opposition however I do hope that we can return to the Boxing Day friendly with our close rivals in 2010.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:55

[Comment From Martin Jones Martin Jones: ]

Hi Andy. I think it's great you've taken the time to answer all these questions. Best wishes to Rovers this season. I hope you win the Grand Final.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:56 Martin Jones

[Comment From Neil McAndrew Neil McAndrew: ]

I was priviliged to be in the Sponsors lounge for the Batley fixture and was really impressed with the whole set up and experience, the club appears to have a lot of new and exciting sponsors this year (British Army for example), you must be really pleased with this?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:57 Neil McAndrew

[Comment From Neil McAndrew Neil McAndrew: ]

Finish on a lighter note... What is your favourite game/ occasion since becoming involved at the club?

Friday March 12, 2010 12:57 Neil McAndrew

Thanks Neil, I am pleased based on one of the previous questions and my answer that you have enjoyed the new facilities. Please tell your friends!

As for the best occasion, at this stage it would be hard to beat the grand final at Headingley in 2007 but I would like to surpass it in 2010.

Friday March 12, 2010 12:58

[Comment From james james: ]

can you tell us a bit about the Clubs work with the community and how it helps the profile of the club

Friday March 12, 2010 12:58 james

Hi James, we have a 12-strong community development team plus in house "Study Rovers" and "Playing for Success" and we work closely with the NHS PCT, WDH, the young offenders team at Wakefield Council, Wakefield Community School and Millenium Care Services to address and make a difference to the health and lifestyle of both young and old in the Wakefield area.

I think the profile of the club is enhanced as we demonstrate to a wide-ranging audience that we can deliver a class leading services that are not based on rugby alone.
