The Kangaroos brand has been wasted & thrown away
Cowardly Fan replied to IM2's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
When discussing adding more internationals the pushback is often the length of the season, that's why the relevant comparison is per game - what's the cost/benefit for adding an extra international if that means losing a league game. Union & Cricket both use them primarily to drive growth, in football internationals are the most common first attraction to the sport too despite lower frequency. -

This isn't true in football. The World Cup has about 25% higher revenue than the Champions League with higher viewing figures, despite fewer games. Some of the national leagues would have more over a season, but that's only because there are several times more games, on a per game basis international is much bigger. Also think you're confused about captialist/socialist claim. FIFA is no more socialist than UEFA or the Premier League. -
That's true, but I do wonder why you don't seem to be discussing it yourself? Have you given your own opinion or even said if you agree with the tweet? For what it's worth I don't think turnout for internationals is significantly worse for Huddersfield than other locations. Even if it is I don't follow the conclusion to stop giving them events, building interest takes a lot of time (even generations as we know how much sporting interest is driven by family). A weakness in the world cup has been saturation, so a retreat would be counter productive.

For the reasons I listed. Believe we are still moving forward in terms of revenue, media reach and the other tournaments even if attendances aren't what they could/should have been. Also notable this is first time we've moved away from super groups, which is a step I think we needed to take, but does present a challenge in giving less marquee games. -

For growth in attendances & revenue selling out a game like this is a clear target. Might be only a few thousand missing, but sellouts have a value beyond the game itself. Many things have gone wrong such as pricing, venues & website, plus factors out of our control like postponement, rail strike, cost of living & more competitive sporting calendar. Believe it would have sold out if only a couple of those had gone right. Can see a positive in that - we've had more attractive quarter finals I expect, yet this one had a record attendance despite several things not being ideal. Missed opportunity, but also sign of the potential there. -

Wasn't aware of those statements for Coventry & Leeds. I'd agree we need consistency, but go the other way and would stick to sales because that's practice for most sports (so giving lower figure makes us look worse by comparison) and as far as I know many venues can't give a reliable count (at least Old Trafford couldn't a few years ago). -

We can all read what you wrote, so nonsense to deny it. Likewise. -

You suggested someone thought there were 23k in the ground because that was the announced figure. -

You seem new to sport or just sticking to an early poor prediction. No shows have always been counted in the official attendances -

Do you have a link for that? Maybe I'm out of date... -

Would suggest a lot of freebies as you say, as dance school wouldn't be high up the list. Still I am generally in favour of this especially if targeting children. Tend to think sports underestimate the long-term value of attracting new fans. -

Without a doubt it's tickets sold/distributed. As it is for every other sport as far as I'm aware. -

As a purchaser of hospitality I don't think a packed stadium & atmosphere is key. What's often lacking (important for me) at our stadiums are the facilities & service outside of the hospitality boxes. I've thought for a while it's a glaring gap at club level. Other sports do it well so it's enjoyable even with passing interest in the sport. That's money left on the table for club. Getting players in for photos for example adds value to experience & increases bar spend. -

You seem very sensitive & critical at the same time which isn't a good mix. If you're going to call them incompetent, then you should be prepared for people to critique your own views. -

That they aren't doing anything about it. That others are happy with attendances. If we don't agree with 'free tickets on social media' then apparently that's giving up & we don't care about rugby league or want it to do better. I worked in sports marketing for years. Met with RFL on a couple of occasions to try & advise. You can question my opinions but not my motivations.
