In-form Escaré rewarded with new four-year Dragons deal

Dragons full-back Morgan Escaré has today signed a new four-year deal with the Catalans that will keep him in the south of France until 2018.

The 22-year-old scored 27 tries in 27 appearances last season, which broke the club’s record and gave him a real shot at a place in Super League’s Dream Team. Alas, Leeds’ Zak Hardaker was selected ahead of him, much to the bemusement of coach Laurent Frayssinous and countless fans.

“I’m really happy and proud to stay at the club,” Escaré said.

“I love the club, it’s my hometown club and it’s great to commit to a long-term deal with the Dragons. I feel really good here and I’m really happy to sign this new contract.”

Bernard Guasch, the Dragons chairman said: “He had two more years left on his contract but it was important not only for the club but also for Morgan to secure him a long term deal.

“He had an amazing season and we want to reward him for his performances and his involvement in the club with this new deal. He is a real talent, he is that sort of player Super League needs, able to create the show, and I think the best is still to come for him.”

Coach Frayssinous added: “It’s a great news for the club to keep Morgan for the next four seasons. He has an outstanding season so far, he has scored 27 tries in 27 games, which is awesome.

“He has improved a lot this season, his second in Super League, especially in defence. He has to keep his desire to improve and to bring his qualities to the team, both on and off the field.”
