Former Australia and New South Wales star Todd Carney has vowed to learn from his mistakes as he starts a new life in Super League with Catalan Dragons.
The 28-year-old, who was sacked from Cronulla Sharks and deregistered by the NRL following a lewd image of him going viral, penned a three-year deal with the French club last month. The RFL finally approved his registration to Super League at the start of October, setting out strict behavioural guidelines for the Australian.
“I am really excited to go over to France, this isn’t the end of me, it is just the beginning,” he said on his Instagram account.
“Since I was three years old all I ever wanted to do is play in the NRL.
“I will never forget the feeling [I had] putting on my first ever first grade jumper with the Raiders and could never, never [have] thought of winning the Dally M and playing in a Grand Final with such a proud club like the Roosters.
“I feel so lucky to have played for country, NSW and Australia.
“Whilst I have made mistakes and had plenty of ups and downs, I will learn from it and I’m sure to become a better person.
“A huge thanks to all of the players I played with and to the many coaches.
“To the fans, your support has brought me through difficult times and I thank you so much.
“Most of all to my family and friends who have stuck by me through the good and bad times it is appreciated beyond belief.”
