Warrington Wolves have continued to invest in the ongoing development of the club by introducing a new indoor training facility.
The club, in association with JLJ Group, have used the off-season to start the construction of a new purpose-built facility on site at the University of Chester, Warrington Padgate campus.
The £500,000 investment will house a 3G pitch and sit alongside the other training facilities already on site including the purpose-built gym, coaching and physio rooms, running track and training field.
The pitch will be primarily for use by the club and is due for completion mid-January.
Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith said: “In the past, when the bad weather hits and the pitches are unsuitable, we’ve had to search for an alternative, to now have this on our own site is fantastic.
“It will not only serve the first team and enhance our preparations but the academy will have full use of the facility to aid player development. There will also be times when the university and community will have access, so the benefits are far reaching. Simon Moran and the board need to be commended for making this happen.”
Andy Gatcliffe, Wolves’ chief executive, added: “The building of this indoor facility once again reinforces the strong partnership the club has with the University of Chester.
“It complements the other facilities already on site and will provide our players and coaches with an all-year-round training provision for when the weather is against us. We are a forward-thinking club and strongly believe that putting the right foundations in place will see us reap the rewards on and off the pitch. Our thanks must go to the university and to JLJ Group for their help in delivering this project in time for the new season.”
