Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have received a potentially huge boost after it emerged Kevin Locke’s injury could not be as bad as first feared.
Locke suffered a ruptured pectoral muscle in the defeat to Castleford last weekend, with initial fears that his season had come to a premature end just a few games into his deal with the club.
However, Wildcats boss Brian Smith has revealed that Locke may yet play a part in the Super 8s, as Wakefield look to preserve their Super League status in the Qualifiers.
“It is substantial but not as frightening as we thought on game day,” said Smith.
“Kevin has been given a few options by the specialist that he saw in Manchester, one of which was to rehab the injured area over the next three weeks. That would mean he would be somewhere around the first and second game in the middle eights.
“At that point it will be determined whether that rehab allows him to function at a professional performance level. If that is the case we will go forward from there and hope that it works out for him.”
