Thursday will be like a Grand Final, says Wane

Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane believes that Thursday’s Super 8s opener against Huddersfield Giants will be “like a Grand Final”, as both teams look to strengthen their position inside the top four.

Third-placed Wigan take on the fourth-placed Giants at the DW Stadium on Thursday, with Wigan looking to keep up their perfect record at home in the league this season.

And Wane, who thinks his side are starting to piece together some form at just the right part of the year, says the intensity and impact of Thursday’s game will be so big it will resemble the Old Trafford showpiece.

“I think we did find some consistency towards the end. The Hull game was the best we’ve played, so I think we have our tails up at the moment. We have to win, I want to get off to a good start.

“But I’m sure Paul will say the same thing. We had a good win away at Huddersfield this year but I think that means nothing coming into this game. They’re a good defensive team.

“Thursday’s game is going to be like a Grand Final.”
