Anderson likely to name unchanged team for Widnes clash

Huddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson has revealed that he could potentially name the same 17 players who faced Wigan a fortnight ago to play Widnes this Sunday.

The Giants narrowly lost to the Warriors at the John Smith’s Stadium despite being without a number of key men, including captain Danny Brough, props Craig Huby and Eorl Crabtree and fullback Scott Grix.

A youthful Huddersfield side put in a gallant performance despite defeat, and ahead of the visit of the Vikings this weekend, Anderson hinted that he could go with the same again.

“We’re training with 21 at the minute but they’re pretty young as a group,” he said.

“We’re not getting anyone back so it’ll be the same 19 and probably the same 17 who play against Widnes on Sunday.”

Anderson said that there are a couple of injured stars who could potentially make it back for next weekend’s visit to Super League champions Leeds – but insisted nobody will be rushed.

“There’s one or two who may have a chance for Leeds, but if there’s any doubt then that’ll be a no for them.

“It’s early in the year and we all want to get a win, don’t get me wrong – this club wants to get wins – but there’s a bigger picture in place.”
