Brian Smith has expressed his frustrations over the upcoming Super League schedule.
Wakefield face Warrington on Friday, just five days after their hard-fought victory over Hull Kingston Rovers. In contrast, Warrington haven’t played for 12 days, when the also defeated Rovers.
The predicament has occurred because the bottom four Super League teams from the previous season enter the Challenge Cup a round earlier than their eight rivals, who will play their game in hand the same week that those four teams play in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup. As a result, the bottom four teams from 2015 played each other last weekend when the World Club Series went ahead.
However, Smith believes that the current scheduling is unfair.
“It’s a big job for us to go there with five days’ preparation when they’ve had 12,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.
“Because Warrington have the Thursday game next week they’ve scheduled this game for Friday so that they have a full break before the game next – because the Rugby Football League say they can.
“All that’s great for Warrington but not great at all for us.
“It’s like we’re being set up to be like the insect on the windscreen. We aren’t going to be that on Friday night, I can assure you.”
