Vikings snap up Hood as part of 2019 rebuild

WIDNES VIKINGS have continued to strengthen their squad for the Championship with the acquisition of hooker Liam Hood.

League Express can reveal the Vikings have made the Leigh player their second signing for 2019 after completing a deal for Halifax prop Adam Tangata.

Hood, a 26-year-old who has played internationally for Scotland, has Super League experience after spells with Leeds, Salford and the Centurions.

The Vikings have lost all three of their existing hookers, with Lloyd White being released, Aaron Heremaia retiring and Danny Walker on his way to Warrington. But they have landed Hood for next year as they plot a path back to Super League at the first attempt.

The Vikings were heavily linked with a move for the Bradford-born Hood in the aftermath of Leigh’s flash sale after failing to reach the top four.

A move never materialised, but the Vikings have now got their man in what is another impressive addition to their squad heading into 2019.

Hood joined the Centurions in 2016 and helped them earn promotion that year, before being one of their top performers in 2017 as they suffered relegation.

Despite an awful season for the Leythers this term, Hood was one of the standout performers for the Keiron Purtill’s side, but hasn’t played for several weeks.
