Wakefield Trinity are in talks with Cronulla Sharks about bringing former Kangaroos and State of Origin representative Andrew Fifita to Super League.
League Express understands Wakefield have began discussions with Cronulla to sign Fifita mid-season.
Andrew is the twin brother of Wakefield frontrower David Fifita.
The 31-year-old won the 2013 World Cup with Australia and has also played ten Tests for Tonga.
Fifita is on the outer at Cronulla and coach John Morris is keen to offload him.
He has been relegated to playing in the NSW Cup this year, despite losing more than 20 kilograms in the off-season.
Fifita is on a reported salary of around £400,000 a year and would have to take a pay cut to move to Super League.
It is believed Wakefield have contacted the Sharks about bringing the prop to the UK now, rather than in 2022.
Trinity are also looking to release forward Adam Tangata to clear salary cap space to potentially fit in Fifita.
Fifita debuted in the NRL for Wests Tigers in 2010.
He spent two seasons at the Tigers, playing 39 games for them before joining Cronulla in 2012.
The frontrower has played ten times for NSW in State of Origin and won a Grand Final with Cronulla in 2016.
An Indigenous All Stars representative on six occasions, Fifita has made 224 career appearances in the NRL.
Wakefield did not respond for comment when contacted.
