Coach Brett Hodgson wants to put on a show for returning fans when Hull host Catalans chasing a fourth win of their Super League season on Monday night.
As with the other four top-flight and two Championship matches taking place, it will be the first time spectators have been inside grounds for more than a year following the easing of Covid restrictions by the government.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” said the Australian, who took up his post in November and has guided the Black and Whites into the Challenge Cup semi-finals.
“Obviously for us as a club, the games are so much different without fans, and we’re excited about supporters being able to get in.
“They’ve missed it. Sitting at home and watching on their TVs is just not the same.
“What we need to do is put in a performance that allows our supporters to be happy.”
England rugby union coach Eddie Jones spent two days alongside compatriot Hodgson at Hull’s training ground to observe preparations for the Catalans clash.
The 61-year-old is known to be an admirer of Rugby League, and paid a similar visit to Warrington in 2019.
Hodgson, 43, spent time in Jones’ England camp while learning his trade as a coach.
The former Wests Tigers assistant coach tasted defeat for the first time in his Hull tenure in the last league game, when Wigan were 16-14 winners at the DW Stadium.
But his charges bounced back by defeating the Warriors 20-10 in their Emerald Headingley rematch in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup.
Monday’s clash is followed by a return to Headingley to take on Leeds on Sunday.
