MAY 1 – the annual date in northern hemisphere rugby league when those out of contract at the end of the season are able to start negotiating with other clubs.
With the Bank Holiday Weekend having been and gone, all the focus will be on this week’s round of rugby league games.
However, those out of contract at the end of 2023 will have one eye on securing their short-term and long-term futures, including Hull FC prop Chris Satae.
The Black and Whites prop is now 30 years of age after joining the club midway through the 2019 Super League season, but has become one of Hull’s most impressive forwards.
69 appearances down and now Satae finds himself looking for a new deal with his good friend, Ligi Sao, already having secured his future at the MKM Stadium for the next few seasons.
However, with the Warrington Wolves needing a new forward following the departure of Thomas Mikaele to the Gold Coast Titans, there have been a few murmurings that the Cheshire club may make a move for Satae.
League Express understands, however, that will not be the case with Warrington holding off from making a kneejerk reaction to Mikaele’s exit despite head coach Daryl Powell keen to replace the former Wests Tigers prop as soon as possible.
Warrington have also been linked with Wakefield Trinity back-rower Kelepi Tanginoa with the club said to have been “interested” in luring the star away from Belle Vue.
However, with Tanginoa under contract, any move would demand a fee – unless, of course, Trinity are relegated.
