RHYS KENNEDY is enjoying life in the capital after making the move from Hull KR to the London Broncos ahead of the 2024 Super League season.
Like the rest of the Broncos’ squad, Kennedy is currently unsure about what the future holds, but he emphasised the difference in the way of life in London when compared to the life he had in Beverley.
“I’m enjoying myself, it’s a bit of a different world down in London both on and off the field,” Kennedy told League Express.
“It’s been a nice change, it’s a different situation with London being a team coming up from the Championship so it’s been challenging.
“It’s been a bit of a challenge with some of the uncertainties going into next season, I don’t think we were basically relegated before the season started.
“But, we have been trying to focus on what we can control which is trying to improve our performances on the field.
“It’s a bit different living in London than it is living in Beverley. It’s a different lifestyle, so I jump on my bike and get around that way.”
London boss Mike Eccles has earned numerous raps for the way in which he has gone about his business this season – but what does Kennedy make of him?
“I get along along with him really well, he’s a great leader and a great people manager. I’ve enjoyed myself with him so far.”
Kennedy found himself released from the last year of his contract with Hull KR towards the back end of last season.
It was a surprising decision considering the former Brisbane Bronco’s impact at Craven Park.
And, though, the 29-year-old didn’t delve too much into what happened, he is grateful for his chance at London – and wants to stay beyond 2024.
“I probably wouldn’t want to go into too many details (about the Hull KR exit). At the end of the day, they believed it was more of a business decision so I will leave it at that.
“It is what it is, but I am happy where I am at now. I’ve had the chance to be in a position in the leadership group which has helped develop me as a person and a leader so I’m glad I have had the opportunity to join London.
“I would like to stay at London, we just need some more clarity about what’s happening next year.”
