‘Refs need to know the rules’ blasts Brad Arthur after Leeds Rhinos defeat

WARRINGTON WOLVES head coach Sam Burgess feels that his men have still not shown what they are capable of as they moved up to third after a late win over Leeds Rhinos.

A controversial late Keenan Palasia sin-binning paved the way for Jake Thewlis to go over in the corner just moments later, as the Wolves secured back-to-back Super League victories.

And Burgess feels there is more to come, claiming they are “nowhere near” producing their best.

“There have been a lot of people doubting us, but we’re not even getting started yet,” he said.

“We’re still miles away from where we need to be, but we will fine tune as we go and enjoy the win.”

Leeds head coach Brad Arthur felt their discipline let Warrington back into the game in the second half, as the Rhinos failed to replicate their efforts in the first 40.

“We made it tough on ourselves at times,” said Arthur. “We had plenty of fight and grit but we just have to learn.

“There was a lack of discipline… It doesn’t make sense, because it’s something we’ve worked really hard on. I need to look back and see if there is something we need to do differently.”

In the final seconds, Rhinos were denied a chance to score when time ran out with the officials claiming the scrum was not packed, which left Arthur dismayed.

“We only had twelve players on the field, they should know that,” he explained after the game.

“We packed five in the scrum already. Our players were told there were only five in the scrum, so I don’t know.

“We still had ten seconds, our likelihood of winning is remote, but it doesn’t matter, you can’t just blow time out. They need to know the rules.”
