WAKEFIELD TRINITY will be without Josh Griffin for the visit of Huddersfield Giants tomorrow (Saturday), joining Lachlan Walmsley in nursing a minor injury.

Griffin, who will leave the club at the end of the season for Super League hopefuls York Knights, has been named in Wakefield’s 21-man squad but is carrying an ankle issue.

Coach Daryl Powell, who is looking for a response to their two biggest defeats of the season against St Helens and Wigan Warriors in their last outings, said: “There will be couple of changes by the nature of the last few performances.

“Some guys are creaking with some little bits. Josh Griffin for example is in the squad but is unlikely to play.

“He’s got an issue that will keep him out but it’s not bad, he’ll be okay for next week (at Castleford Tigers on Friday, September 5).”

Lachlan Walmsley has been left out of Wakefield’s squad, with Powell revealing the winger was suffering the after-effects of a head knock against Wigan.

“He came back on but afterwards he didn’t feel 100 percent right,” added the coach.

“It’s a precaution more than anything else. We’ve a couple of wingers in Jayden Myers and Matty Russell who haven’t played massively, so we have some options.”

Wakefield trail Hull FC by a point in the race for sixth spot and the final place in the play-offs.

Powell said: “We’ve got four games left and a good opportunity to get in the six. Hull will feel the same.

“We need to find that ‘play-off mode’ of performance, energy and effort.

“We’ve worked hard all year to get ourselves to a position where we’re in with a shot of it.

“Hull would say it’s in their hands but I think whoever plays the best in these last four games will be in there. We have to make sure it’s us.

“I don’t the team should feel pressure, they should be relaxed. We are the hunting team at the moment.

“No one expected us to be in this position so we can go play our game without any weight of pressure.”
