Perth Bears sign London Broncos duo for 2027

PERTH BEARS have added London Broncos duo Luke Smith and Marly Bitungane for 2027.

The Bears, led by Australia head coach Mal Meninga, will enter the NRL as its newest franchise the season after next.

The club’s first two signings were confirmed earlier in the week with Leeds Rhinos star Harry Newman and Catalans Dragons’ new recruit Toby Sexton making the move to Perth in a year’s time.

Both former Canterbury Bulldogs man Smith and ex-North Queensland Cowboys player Bitungane will head to the London Broncos in 2026 before linking up with another new side.

The Bears have been able to negotiate with players off-contract at the end of 2026 from November 1.

Smith, 22, made two appearances for the Bulldogs in 2025, but has played most of his career so far in their reserves side, making 21 appearances over the course of two seasons.

Bitungane, 23, also made two appearances for the Cowboys during the 2025 NRL campaign, but has plied most of his trade at feeder club Northern Pride in the Queensland Cup, registering seven tries in 35 appearances.

“Emarly and Luke possess all the characteristics we are looking for as we continue to build out roster,” said Perth general manager David Sharpe.

“They are hardworking, selfless and confident enough to take themselves out of their comfort zone to play in the UK before committing to Perth for 2027.

“I’m delighted they can play together in London next year and can’t wait to see them in a Bears jersey in 2027.”
