Danny Kirmond signs long-term Wakefield Trinity deal

WAKEFIELD TRINITY have locked in their full first-team coaching staff for the long term, with Danny Kirmond joining boss Daryl Powell and fellow assistant Michael Shenton in signing through to 2029.

Kirmond returned to Wakefield, where he scored 46 tries in 173 games across a 2010 loan spell then nine permanent seasons between 2012 and 2020, two years ago following his playing retirement with York.

Alongside Powell and Shenton, he helped Trinity win the Championship in 2024 and then reach the play-offs on their Super League return last season.

The other two signed new deals in August, at the same time Ste Mills signed a contract to be the club’s director of rugby until 2031, with Kirmond now following.

He said: “I’m excited to get the deal over the line and the news that I will be at the club long-term out there.

“I’m super happy to have my contract in line with Daryl Powell and Michael Shenton’s. Having consistency within the coaching staff is something that is really important for a club and helps with player development as they develop a trust within the staff and build confidence with the coaches.”

Mills said: “I’m really pleased Danny has resigned with the club. He brings great energy, and a genuine passion for Wakefield Trinity to the coaching group.

“He’s a big part of what we’re building, and I’m delighted he’s staying with us. It was important for us to bring him in line with Daryl and Michael’s contracts, creating real stability in our coaching set-up.”
