Sheffield Eagles explore moving some games out of city

SHEFFIELD EAGLES are exploring the possibility of playing some matches out of the city at Dronfield in Derbyshire.

That’s the location of the MEPS International Home Of Football Stadium of non-league football club Sheffield FC, recognised as the world’s oldest team.

The Eagles said: “With the fixture list now confirmed, we are working to secure venues for the season and are exploring the possibility of playing some games at the MEPS International Home Of Football Stadium as well as the Steel City Stadium, with a view to improving the matchday experience for fans after feedback during the 2025 season. More information will be provided once confirmed.”

Businessman Jeremy Levine is a director of both the Eagles and Sheffield FC, where the former recently staged their new kit launch.

The two clubs aim to build a shared 5,000-capacity venue in the Meadowhead area to the south of the city centre, providing multi-sports, community and educational facilities as well as a football museum, although the project has been delayed by planning objections.

The Eagles would move from the Steel City Stadium, the current version of which they have played at since 2022 after a spell at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster.

The current version of the club, formed in late 1999, have also been based at the old Don Valley Stadium, Sheffield United Football Club’s Bramall Lane, Owlerton Stadium, Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park and Wakefield’s now DIY Kitchens Stadium as well as an earlier version of the Steel City Stadium, previously known as Olympic Legacy Park.

Meanwhile the Eagles’ home game against Barrow has been brought forward 24 hours to Saturday, February 21 to avoid a cash with the football derby between Sheffield rivals United and Wednesday.
