WIGAN WARRIORS appear to have suffered a serious blow to their 2026 prospects with reports that newly-signed prop forward Oliver Wilson has suffered an Achilles tendon injury in training and could miss the entire season.
Wilson, 25, who joined Wigan in the off-season from Huddersfield Giants, is expected to undergo surgery on the injury.
His absence would be a major blow for Wigan, who have lost prop forwards Liam Byrne to Warrington, Harvie Hill to Castleford and Tyler Dupree on a season-long loan to Toulouse Olympique.
Wilson, who played for England against France in 2024, was Wigan’s major close-season signing.
Fortunately for them, however, they will be able to apply for a full salary cap dispensation, allowing them to sign a replacement, assuming that Wilson will be absent throughout the season.
The club could sign an NRL player, given that it doesn’t have a full overseas quota.
Prior to his move across the Pennines, Wilson had spent the previous seven seasons with Huddersfield, making his debut in 2019 and making 114 appearances.
