Former Hull KR prop Leo Tennison joins Newcastle Thunder

NEWCASTLE THUNDER have signed Leo Tennison following the prop’s departure from Hull KR.

The 21-year-old is Newcastle’s third signing for next season, joining ex-York Knights forward pair Bailey Antrobus and Sam Cook.

When Tennison left the Robins last month, with a year remaining on his contract, the club said he would be taking “a new opportunity with another Super League club”.

However, he’s linked up with a Newcastle side rebuilding under coach Graham Steadman having not won a match since 2023.

Thunder are developing a closer relationship with Super League newcomers York Knights, who were previously linked with a move for Tennison.

Steadman said: “Leo’s come from a good system with high standards and has experience in the Championship (and League One) through loan spells with Featherstone Rovers and Goole Vikings.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how he develops in our environment. He adds options to the pack we are building.”

Tennison made his first and only senior appearance for Hull KR in 2023, featuring in an away Super League clash against Wigan Warriors.

A product of that club’s academy system, Tennison has been part of Rovers’ pathway programme and featured regularly for the reserves.

He played seven times for Featherstone and three for Goole, as well as making his first three professional appearances at Cornwall.
