GOOLE VIKINGS signing Liam Watts has been handed the number 30 shirt.
Now 35, he made eight appearances for Hull FC in Super League last season and has topped 380 first-class games during his career, also featuring for Castleford and Hull KR and in loan spells, Gateshead and Doncaster.
Ex-England Knights player Watts has become the latest Hull connection at Scott Taylor’s Vikings, who are building a competitive-looking squad for their maiden Championship season.
Four of the club’s other new signings claim ‘starting’ squad numbers in the shape of Cooper Howlett (three), Keenen Tomlinson (four), Jack Miller (seven) and Nick Staveley (twelve).
Taylor said: “For some players, squad numbers are important, others they place less emphasis on them.
“We’ve used the squad numbers to reward a number of players who we felt deserved it and to acknowledge their position within our squad.
“The reality for me is that every shirt is up for grabs come round one and throughout the season. The name and number on the back of the shirt are nowhere near as important as the badge on the front – and that will always be our philosophy at this club.”
