HUNSLET coach Kyle Trout says his side will have to significantly improve their discipline if they are to take the points from their second league outing at Salford on Sunday, February 15.
After a tough 2025 season, the South Leeds Stadium side started their Championship fixtures with a new-look squad and plenty of optimism – only to suffer a 20-12 home loss to Dewsbury.
That took the edge off a 250th career appearance for outside back Matty Dawson-Jones, who has signed from Sheffield after previously playing for Huddersfield, St Helens, Leigh, Hull FC and Bradford.
Winger Mo Agoro started his second Hunslet stint with two tries, and Trout noted: “In patches, we showed what we are capable of, and that when we play with the fluency that we want to, it will be hard for teams to keep up with us.
“However when it comes to our discipline, there is no way of sugar-coating things, it was a disgrace.
“If you make errors, give away six-agains and penalties, take the wrong options and keep doing it, you’ve got no chance.
“Dewsbury took advantage by taking their chances, and over the game as a whole, they were better in all those key areas likes effort, energy and intent, and we know we have to be better.”
Hunslet have a bye round this weekend, then host Huddersfield in the third round of the Challenge Cup following Saturday’s 44-0 second-round derby victory at amateurs Stanningley.
