Jackson Hastings explains decision to join St Helens and why the Super League club feels ‘familiar’

JACKSON HASTINGS has explained that St Helens has a very familiar feel to it given the amount of people he knows at the club.

The 30-year-old has penned a one-year deal with the Merseyside club, reuniting with former Salford Red Devils head coach Paul Rowley as well as former Salford player Nene Macdonald.

And it’s fair to say that Hastings has fit into the club seamlessly.

“It feels like I’ve been here for a long time already,” Hastings told League Express.

“I played against a lot of the players already here and played with a lot of them in the Great Britain set-up.

“I played with Nene when I was 15 or 16 at the Sydney Roosters and then Jacob Host when I was even younger at the (St George Illawarra) Dragons.

“I’m familiar with a lot of the coaching staff so it’s been like riding a bike. It’s been brilliant.

So why did Hastings join Saints?

“The club itself and Rowls (Paul Rowley) was a big draw. The playing group at the club speaks volumes too.

“It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world, not just in England. It’s a real honour to know that I will have played a small piece in the history of rugby league playing in these colours.

“When you get the chance to play for a club like this, you take it and you need to make the most of it which is something I plan on doing.”
