GOOLE VIKINGS signing Oli Morgan says a desire to test himself against experienced players was behind his move.
The hooker came through the ranks at Warrington and spent last year playing for their second string before heading along the M62.
He has already made an impression at the Victoria Pleasure Grounds club, who are through to round four of the Challenge Cup.
“I was at Warrington for four-and-a-half years, and played a year in the Reserves, but at this stage I just wanted to learn and play against men,” he explained.
“When I got the call from Tag (Goole coach Scott Taylor), I knew it was a great opportunity, one I had to grab with both hands.
“Reserve grade can be frustrating. You’re playing every fortnight or so, you can’t get any rhythm and sometimes it doesn’t feel like everything is on the line. Here, you’re playing for points, for results. It all matters.”
Morgan believes the Vikings can help him achieve his Super League dream, referencing Hull FC’s new front-row signing Joe Phillips.
“Super League is my aim, and I honestly believe Goole is the best place to help me get there,” he said.
“You look at Joe Phillips – he came here to Goole, kicked on, and now he’s earned a deal with Hull FC.
“That shows what’s possible. It’s exciting knowing you can come here, make a name for yourself, and give yourself a real chance.”
