Goole Vikings prepare for big game at improved Victoria Pleasure Ground

GOOLE VIKINGS coach Scott Taylor is plotting home rule as fans look forward to seeing the latest stage of the Victoria Pleasure Ground redevelopment.

When the Vikings host Keighley on Saturday, supporters will for the first time have access to the new pavilion facilities.

The ambitious £7 million project is transforming the historic multi-sports venue, which dates back to 1888 and is operated by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, into a state-of-the-art sporting and events hub.

The overhaul is designed to revitalise local grassroots sports and boost the town’s economy.

Taylor – who announced on Monday he would be leaving the club at the end of the season – believes the progress being made off the pitch (which is artificial) is just as important as the work taking place on it.

“The positive thing is that the ground is all but complete, which is so exciting for everyone involved in the project,” he said.

“It’s brilliant for the town, brilliant for the club and brilliant for everybody who has worked so hard to make it happen.

“We’ve got a massive game against Keighley coming up and hopefully the fans can really get behind us.”

Taylor feels the bye round just gone could work in his side’s favour.

“We’ve had plenty of excuses with injuries and struggled to have 17 healthy players available over the last few games,” he said.

“But regardless of that, we still need to be better.”
