Rochdale Hornets sign forward from Leigh Leopards

ROCHDALE HORNETS new boy Bailey Pemberton says he is “really grateful” to receive his first professional contract.

The forward’s only first-team experience is the four appearances registered with ailing North Wales Crusaders earlier this year.

That was on loan from Leigh Leopards, where he has featured primarily for their reserve team.

Pemberton, the younger brother of York Knights hooker Taylor, came through the youth system at St Helens having previously been part of Leigh East’s junior set-up.

He could make his debut next Saturday (May 9) when Rochdale host Newcastle Thunder.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to join Rochdale Hornets,” Pemberton said.

“I’m ready to put in the work, earn the shirt, and become part of this great club, and I’m looking forward to meeting all the supporters at our next game.”

Rochdale chairman Andy Mazey added: “Bailey is a young man who we know well.

“He’s a big, athletic edge forward who has plied his trade with Leigh’s reserves over the past couple of seasons, and recently acquitted himself well when stepping into the professional game to play for North Wales Crusaders.

“He will continue his development under Gary Thornton (head coach) and our performance staff at Rochdale, and we are delighted to welcome him on board.”
