Goole Vikings add Newcastle Thunder forward for rest of year

GOOLE VIKINGS have tempted Geordie forward Tyler Walton to the Victoria Pleasure Ground, with the versatile 25-year-old Newcastle player signed on loan for the rest of the season to provide additional pack options for coach Scott Taylor.

Walton, who learned the game as a Wallsend Eagles junior, last year started a second spell at Newcastle, having come through the club’s old Academy to make eight appearances as well as being farmed out to Rochdale, Midlands and Cornwall to gain experience.

He joined Workington for the 2024 League One campaign, featuring 20 times under experienced Anthony Murray, before his return to Tyneside, since when he has had 18 further Newcastle outings.

Walton is in the squad for Friday’s trip to his parent club.

Taylor is without experienced hooker Will Jubb and props Harry Medlicott, Alex Holdstock and Brad Bullock due to injury.

But he has Leigh frontrower Oliver Polec on a short-term loan, the 19-year-old St Helens product having previously played in the Championship for Whitehaven.
