Referee ‘lost his cool’ in ‘carnage’ game says Daryl Powell

WAKEFIELD TRINITY head coach Daryl Powell believes referee Aaron Moore “lost his cool” in their dramatic 26-24 victory over Hull KR.

Wakefield’s Matty Storton was red-carded for a high tackle just before the hour mark before Hull KR prop Sauaso Sue was also dismissed by Moore just minutes later for a wild swinging arm.

Powell said: “It was a crazy game. I thought the first half was mad.

“I thought the referee lost his cool, and I feel like that impacted on his decision-making.

“I was sending messages out to Mike (McMeeken, captain), just to calm the ref down a bit, if you can, because I just thought the game was carnage at one point.”

On Storton’s dismissal, he said: “It’s not a send off for me. The swinging arm (from Sue) probably is.

“I’ll have to have a look back. I’ve seen the replays, but I need to look at it in a little bit more detail, especially the Matty Storton one, because it doesn’t appear to me that he strikes him in the head.

“I don’t think people are getting sent off for them, so that was surprising.”
