HULL FC have secured a permanent move for Ethan O’Neill, who has signed a contract until the end of 2028.
The Australian back-rower has impressed in five loan appearances from Leeds Rhinos and the club have acted swiftly to agree a transfer.
Chief executive Richie Myler said: “We are delighted to keep Ethan here on a permanent basis after a promising loan spell over the last couple of months.
“Ethan has been a really positive addition to the group – his work-rate is incredibly high, and he has become a strong voice in our pack in only a short time here.
“I’m looking forward to seeing him continue to develop over the coming years in our environment.”
He played just four times at Leeds after joining ahead of this season on a three-year contract from Leigh Leopards.
Rhinos coach Brad Arthur said: “Ethan was here on day one of pre-season and, as with all our players who are not in the team at the weekend, he has contributed in training to making sure the team are prepared in the best possible manner for Super League each week.
“He has been unfortunate that the fitness of the squad and the consistent emergence of players in his position has limited his opportunities but I am sure he will make the most of his chance with Hull FC.”
O’Neill, who can also play at centre, does not count on the overseas quota as he trained in England as a junior while father Julian played in Super League.
His signing comes as Jed Cartwright leaves Hull for St Helens on an initial one-month loan deal, with a view to a permanent switch.
