Catalans Dragons add ex-rugby union player to squad

CATALANS DRAGONS have promoted young centre Hugo Cellier to their first-team squad.

Cellier joined the Dragons’ reserve side, St Estève XIII Catalan, who play in the French top-flight Super XIII competition, in March.

Before then he played rugby union for Tarbes, having developed at Catalans’ 15-a-side city neighbours USA Perpignan.

The 22-year-old has signed a deal until the end of the 2028 season.

Club great Thomas Bosc, who now oversees the Dragons’ development pathways, said of Cellier: “He arrived at the end of last season with the reserve team, eager to discover rugby league.

“In just five matches, he quickly demonstrated his full potential.

“He was captivated by the speed and intensity of our sport, and we by his athletic and technical qualities.

“He is a player with significant room for improvement, and we are convinced he will continue to progress in the years to come.”

Cellier said: “I am very happy and proud to take on this new challenge.

“As a Catalan, wearing this jersey has a very special meaning. I can’t wait to defend these colors and contribute to the club’s goals.”
