York Knights ‘lacked intent’ in slow start in France

MARK APPLEGARTH questioned York Knights’ intent in a horror first half at Toulouse Olympique.

York trailed 28-0 at half-time before pulling the final score back to 30-22.

“I thought Toulouse were excellent in the first half and capitalised on our mistakes,” said coach Applegarth.

“It was a tale of two halves and ultimately we left ourselves too much to do.

“I thought in the first half we lacked a little bit of intent so I’m disappointed with that.

“I’m really proud of how we responded at half-time, and that was more like us in the second half, but ultimately if you give a team like Toulouse a 28-point start you are always going to be chasing the game.

“They are in excellent form at the moment and we knew exactly what we needed to do, but we were lacking in intent and execution in the first half.

“If we had turned up from minute one, it would have been more of an even contest.

“We’ll dissect that, draw a line under it and prepare for another tough game versus Huddersfield on Saturday.”
