SAM BURGESS says his Warrington Wolves team need to work on their game management after a 28-12 defeat at play-off rivals Leigh Leopards.
“It’s disappointing to lose, but I’m proud of the fight in the team,” said coach Burgess.
“We had some good ascendancy at times. We just couldn’t post enough points.
“I’d say we gave away a couple of cheap points early and we should have been better in those moments.
“We’ve just got to tidy a couple of things up.
“The second-half completion rate was 56 percent, so I think you can put it down to scoreboard pressure (they trailed 16-6 at half-time).
“When they lost a man (Josh Charnley) to the bin, there were five penalties conceded against us directly after it, and obviously we conceded Leon (Hayes) in the bin.
“So obviously that period we didn’t manage as best we could. If we had our time again, we could manage that a little bit better.”
Burgess also insisted he will not change Warrington’s style, but refine their current one.
“We have our game model that we like to stick to,” he said.
“It’s (about) individually getting our jobs done in the moments and then being disciplined with it as well.
“Our game model is our game model. We just need to execute that with a bit more intensity.”
