MATT PEET has spoken of his admiration for young Wigan Warriors star Kian McDermott following his extended run in the side.
McDermott, 20, made his debut for the Warriors last season but has made ten appearances for Wigan in 2026, scoring two tries in the process.
The forward has taken his opportunity and then some, and it’s fair to say that Peet is a fan – even hinting that McDermott could become a versatile member of the Wigan pack.
“I’ve been impressed with Kian since I’ve been here,” Peet said.
“I come off the training field and talk about how well he is doing all the time.
“We do believe he is primarily a front-rower but he could slot into that back-row spot because of the leg speed he has got.
“He’s a lovely kid, he is very hard-working and I love working with him.”
The Warriors are looking strong going into the home straight, having won all eleven league matches since lifting the Challenge Cup.
Three of their four remaining regular-season Super League fixtures come at The Brick Community Stadium, starting with Friday night’s visit of Wakefield Trinity.
But Peet is pragmatic about Wigan’s run-in, which also includes a potentially decisive trip to Leeds Rhinos, who lead the League Leaders’ Shield race on points difference alone, in a fortnight.
“I think it could be a benefit but we’ve still got to execute it,” he said. “There have been times this year where we haven’t got it right.
“It doesn’t given you a god-given right to get the two points and it’s a place where teams like coming to because it is a great venue.”
