SAM BURGESS has revealed that Warrington Wolves’ Toafofoa Sipley will miss the rest of the season after suffering a fractured leg.
The former New Zealand Warriors and Manly Sea Eagles forward was absent from the 34-24 victory over Huddersfield Giants.
The 31-year-old was helped from the field in their win over Hull KR last week and Burgess has admitted he will play no further part for the Wolves in 2026.
The Wire head coach also said that the injury to Ewan Irwin is being monitored on a day-to-day basis after he picked up a foot injury against the Robins.
“Unfortunately, Tof (Sipley) has fractured his leg, so he is going to miss the rest of the season, which is a big loss,” said Burgess.
“Irwin is just a day-by-day thing. There is no fracture but he’s not moving too well at the moment, we will just see how it goes.”
Talking about the Huddersfield game, Burgess admitted he was just happy with the two points. After a run of four games in 15 days, he was not concerned about the tries they conceded in the second period.
The Wolves led 22-4 at the break and 28-10 in the second half, but a spirited fightback from Huddersfield saw them hang on to win by ten points.
“I am very happy,” said Burgess. “It was always going to be a tough day for a number of reasons.
“There was a couple of points conceded, but mission number one today was to get the two points. I am very proud of the team and it was an important win.”
