BARROW RAIDERS believe a forthcoming upgrade of the MKM marquee at their Speed Competitions Stadium will significantly bolster income streams.
The improvements will mean more regular use of the hospitality facility that originally opened in 2021.
The club flattened a section of terracing next to the main stand to build the structure.
Now they will make it glass-fronted with tiled flooring, a new roof and new walls on the perimeter.
“This will make it as near as we can to a solid structure, negating heat losses, wind issues and reducing noise for our neighbours,” said the Raiders.
“On the back of these plans we are hoping to massively increase the income streams from the marquee by taking more regular bookings.”
Upcoming events include ‘An Evening with Shaun Edwards’, on Friday, September 18 and ‘Anfield Favourites’ featuring Liverpool Football Club icons Jan Molby and Bruce Grobelaar on Friday, September 25.
The club can claim a link with the world-famous round-ball side through their former prop Fred Hughes, the father of Barrow-born Emlyn Hughes, who made 665 appearances for the Reds between 1967 and 1979. He played 62 times for England.
Fred Hughes, from Llanelli, turned professional with Barrow in 1936 and featured in 78 matches before joining the newly-formed Workington during their first season of 1945-46.
