SAM BURGESS hailed the “connection” of his Warrington Wolves group which has taken them all the way to the Grand Final.
Warrington will play at Old Trafford for the first time since 2018 after a nail-biting 14-12 semi-final win at Leeds Rhinos.
“It was a gritty, tough performance.,” said Burgess.
“It was a good old-fashioned contest. We came to win and we did.
“It was scratchy at times but we found a way to keep turning up and competing for each other, which hasn’t been a problem all year.
“There was so much on the line for the guys – no one wants to bow out at this stage of the year. It adds some spice in there.
“I have to say I thought Leeds were terrific. The young players who came in at the last minute didn’t let the club down at all.
“They’ve had a wonderful year. They’ve had a rough week or two with injuries so they’ll be upset about that, but they were very courageous tonight.”
Asked for the key to victory, Burgess replied: “The connection of group, and George (Williams) really grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. He moved the ball and created field position for us.
“George leads from front with his actions. When he decides he wants to do something he’s pretty hard to stop.”
Warrington will face the winner of Saturday’s other semi-final, between Wigan Warriors and Wakefield Trinity.
