Leigh Leopards pair and five London Broncos stars included in PNG World Cup squad

LONDON BRONCOS have five of their players in Papua New Guinea’s World Cup squad.

Fin Glare, Epel Kapinias, Rob Mathias, Morea Morea and Gairo Voro are all named – with Alex Mas also down as a shadow player for the tournament.

Leigh Leopards pair Liam Horne and Edwin Ipape have also made the squad, alongside St Helens centre Nene Macdonald.

Retiring Hull KR forward Rhyse Martin will play his final games before hanging up his boots and moving into an off-field role with PNG Chiefs.

However, Leigh half Lachlan Lam is a notable omission, and the Kumuls are also without with South Sydney Rabbitohs star Alex Johnston, the NRL’s greatest-ever try-scorer, who misses the tournament through injury.

Jason Demetriou’s side made the quarter-finals of the last World Cup, but they will be up against both England and Samoa during the group stage.

PNG will open their campaign with a clash against Lebanon, before taking on Samoa. Both of those games are in Port Moresby, with their third game against England in Wollongong.
