Harry Robertson left stunned by Young Player honour

ST HELENS star Harry Robertson admits he was surprised to be awarded the Betfred Super League Young Player of the Year.

Robertson beat Warrington halfback Ewan Irwin and Wigan playmaker Jack Farrimond for the award, which is his second in a row after also claiming the honour in 2025.

“I was very surprised to win,” he said.

“I didn’t expect it this year. I thought that Jack Farrimond or Ewan Irwin would take it.”

Robertson made 25 appearances for Saints this season, grabbing eight tries and notching ten try-assists as he moved between centre and stand-off.

“I thought I started a bit slower this year,” he admitted.

“I probably got taught a few lessons that are needed, and I picked up from there. But as a team we had an inconsistent year. But you move on and I’m going work hard in pre-season and hopefully be better next year.”

St Helens have gone through a large amount of change in recent months with the sacking of coach Paul Rowley, the appointment of Kevin Walters and the retirement of club legends such as Jonny Lomax and Mark Percival.

“It is quite tough to take because it’s going to be a different place without them there,” Robertson added.

“They’re massive on the field, but more importantly, they’re massive off the field and around the training ground. But I’m really excited to work with Kevin and all the new players coming over. I think we’re going to have a really good season next year and I can’t wait to get on.”
