Aston unhappy following defeat

Sheffield Eagles head coach Mark Aston was bitterly disappointed with his side as they fell to their first defeat of the season at the hands of Batley.

The Bulldogs notched their second superb victory at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium this season after comfortably defeating the Eagles 20-8, two weeks after overcoming Leigh at the same ground.

But that did nothing to appease Aston, however, who was left frustrated with his side’s display.

“I’m bitterly disappointed with our effort,” he said.

“From minute one to minute 80 we were out-enthused, outmuscled and controlled too easy. That frustrates me as we have a pack of forwards that shouldn’t be dominated.

“We just weren’t good enough. There’s plenty of disappointed people and there should be, I’m disappointed because some people didn’t stand up today.”

The day only got worse for the Eagles when winger Garry Lo dislocated his shoulder on debut.

“Hopefully it isn’t too severe. We’ll know more in the next 24 hours.

“The conditions meant we didn’t see the best of Garry, because he needs to play on top of the surface. We wanted to have a look at him.”
