Baldwinson wants more success

Recently crowned Kingstone Press Young Championship Player of the Year, Jordan Baldwinson is eager to win one more accolade with Featherstone Rovers as they battle it out for the Kingstone Press Championship Shield on Sunday against London Broncos.

Baldwinson, who joined Featherstone from Leeds Rhinos on a one-year deal, will return to his parent club at season’s end, and the 20-year-old plans to wrap up his Featherstone career with a triumph in the inaugural Championship Shield.

“It’s really important we finish with some silverware,” said Baldwinson.

“The fans expect so much down at Featherstone so the pressure is on us to win.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time down at Featherstone and it would be nice to finish with some silverware when I leave after Sunday’s game.

“I’ve never got to or played in a final so I don’t want us to throw away all the hard work we’ve put in on the last and biggest game of the season.”

Featherstone defeated Workington Town last week for a place in the final whilst London beat Dewsbury Rams.

The Broncos welcomed back a number of players from injury for that game and Baldwinson expects a challenging encounter on Sunday at the Select Security Stadium, Widnes.

“We beat them (London) a few weeks ago at our place, and they had a few players missing. But they got a few more players back last week so we know there’ll be near enough to full strength,” he said.

“Anything can happen in a final – you can’t underestimate any team in the Championship. All the teams are quite evenly matched; one week you could beat someone and the next you can lose to anyone regardless of their league position.

“We know we have to start the game strong and be physical if we are to beat London. But a final is a final and everyone wants to win it.”

The 2015 Kingstone Press Championship finals day schedule is as follows:

11.30am – Conference Challenge Trophy final – Leigh Miners Rangers v Wath Brow Hornets (11.30am)

2.00pm – Kingstone Press League 1 play-off final – Keighley Cougars v Swinton Lions (2.00pm)
